1. Why is piercing of the cartilage that lies just above the opening of the ear canal called a “Daith?”

2. What symbols are represented in the popular tattoo motif of “coexist?”

 coexist body art

Answer Key:

1. The Daith piercing was co-created by famous piercer Erik Dakota and a female client who spoke Hebrew.  They called the piercing “Daith” as a derivation of the Hebrew word da’at (דעת), which means “knowledge,” because the intention of its position is to filter what passes into the ears, or what is learned.

2. There are eight symbols present in the coexist design: C- the Islamic star and crescent, O- the peace symbol, E- the symbols of both male and female, X- the Jewish star of David, I- the pagan/Wiccan pentacle, S- the Confucian yin yang, and T- the Christian cross.
