Pantone's Color of the Year 2014 is Orchid

Drum roll please… the Pantone Institute color of the year for 2014 is… Radiant Orchid! It’s taking the crown from 2013’s beloved Emerald Green. A pop of tropical purple will get us through the long, cold winter. This is one of those colors that can skirt the line between vibrancy and pastel. Radiant Orchid lays somewhere between amethyst, lavender, violet, purple sapphire, magenta, and pink. The rosey undertones look fantastic with grays, silver, cream, clean white, navy blue, and a whole lot more. Radiant Orchid sparks creativity and reinvention.  It emanates joy and inspires confidence: a perfect vibe to take with us into the New Year.

Pink, purple, and orchid outfits and accessories have been on almost every runway for the spring 2014 season. For clothing you will see this color on the fanciest of gowns and the tightest of tube dresses. The red carpet is blooming with Radiant Orchid. You can wear it in high society, or dress it down, depending on what you’re going for.

Orchid has been a trending hair color for some time now as well. It looks stunning at full brilliance, and even more fantastic as it fades to a cool, barely-there violet hue. For makeup the blending of both cool and warm undertones makes this color flattering to many hair colors, eye colors, and skin tones. It looks great as lipstick, blush, eye shadow, and nail polish.

Pinkish-purple accessories such as belly rings, plugs, earrings, nose rings, necklaces, cocktail rings, and more should be easily worked into your jewelry wardrobe for 2014. Orchid is a natural compliment to last year’s Emerald, and they look fantastic paired. This radiant royal hue fares well in both gold and silver tone settings, and it’s bold splash of unexpected color will make your whole outfit stand out. Be a trendsetter and swath yourself in this luxurious color, before all of your friends catch on.
