Big safety pin to the rescue
"I have an 18g cartilage piercing and needed something to keep in place till it heals. I couldn't get the back in place of the ring I'd intended, so thought this would work. It was thicker and less flexible than I thought, but slid right in. I had to get my husband to use jewelry pliers (which was uncomfortable!) to get it closed but now it's perfect."
