Fall in love with Fashion- The Runway Rundown
There is no better place to fall in love than in Paris, France. It is a magical city, famous for its breathtaking sites, history, and of course that impeccable and effortless Parisian fashion sense. This week is Paris Fashion Week : Women’s Ready to Wear Fall/Winter 2013/2014 Collections. It goes from February 26th to March 6th 2013. Paris fashion week is one of the major 4 fashion events in the high fashion industry. This exciting event features hundreds of designers from all over the world. Celebrities, socialites, editors, fashion buyers, and high class fashionistas flock to Paris to see revolutionary trends being born before their eyes. It is truly not to be missed.
Some noted designers: Alexander Wang, the stunning crackled leather tops with skinny fit black jeans were a critic favorite. Olivier Rousteing accessorized his collection with beautifully gaudy chandelier earrings. Nina Ricci designed a line made for vintage boudoir bombshells only, my own personal favorite so far, very old Hollywood. I loved the feathers and lace immensely, perfect for a red carpet affair. Lanvin also impressed me by pairing seductive gowns with furs, crowns, and uber kitschy, lighthearted necklaces that said things like happy and love. The Lanvin line was definitely the most youthful collection I have seen so far. I also saw a lot of punk inspired leather bombers, trench coats with big buttons, black skinny pants, scarves, bold accessories, and dresses with fringe and extreme color. I am excited to see what the rest of Paris Fashion week has in store.
When In Paris- Dress as the Parisians Dress
Paris is the most romantic and artistically inspiring cities in the world. Thinking of traveling to Paris? If so, I am sure you are asking yourself, what does one wear in Paris? Tres chic meets street. The French do it right by elevating the importance of basic everyday core items mixed with bold accessories. Necklaces, bracelets, earrings, ear cuffs, and body jewelry are what really make the Parisian outfit pop.
For clothing: leather, black and white, texture, subdued prints, and basic black are all classic staples. Black is versatile and can be easily dressed up or down. A neat and clean look characterizes Parisian women. Tailored blazers and straight legged navy or black cotton pants. Lace up boots (petite/feminine) black or brownish camel colored. Military style jackets, loose fitting; often with a fur lined hood and scarves (often knit in a neutral color). Paris is definitely not the place for old sweatpants and ratty t-shirts. It is about class and functionality in a modern city. The tell tale sign of an American tourist in Paris: white sneakers and a baseball cap.
Not every part of this look is clean and impeccable. It is currently trendy in Paris to be more relaxed about your hair and makeup. Parisian women are going au-natural with loose, air dried locks in a messy bun or ponytail. Minimal makeup emphasizes glowing, healthy skin. For nail color stick with clear or beige. When in doubt embrace your inner beauty and opt for a more subtle than flashy approach to styling your look. Beauty is supposed to look effortless.
Trend Alert- Elegant Ear Cuffs
A perfect accessory to a messy up-do is an ear cuff. The ear cuff trend has been seen all over runways (in Paris and around the world), red carpets, and trend blogs. From a simple metallic cuff to elaborate, embellished designs, the ear cuff takes center stage. Ornate ear cuffs adorned the models’ lobes at the Rodarte Spring runway show. Ear cuffs are a statement piece; remember that it is much more attention grabbing paired with minimal earrings or plugs. I really love the look of basic steel or all black body jewelry paired with a more elaborate jeweled or dangle ear cuff.
Michele Williams, Rihanna, and Alicia Keys have all been photographed wearing statement ear cuff jewelry. Whether your ears are pierced or not, ear cuffs are an excellent way to make you stand out. No matter your style, you can find the perfect ear cuff. There are great pierced and non pierced styles available. Some cuffs are simple and delicate while others are avant-garde. Textured metals and small elegant charms are a modest way of expressing this smoking hot trend. Chains connecting the cuff to a regular earring are a popular facet of the trend. Nose to ear chains and other body harnesses are reaching great fashion heights this year. Whether you go for elegant, bohemian, or rocker-chic, just make this style your own.
