Today is Smoke and Mirrors Day, a day to celebrate the power of illusion. The expression “smoke and mirrors” is most often connected to magic, or the perceived otherworldly skills of master magicians. The outcome of a perfect magic trick, known as “the prestige,” is a culmination of the deceptions carried out by the magician, and depending on how good he or she executes their trickery, the result can feel mystical and pretty amazing, creating a sense of wonder that adults rarely feel. Definitely something that’s undeniably worth celebrating. We certainly can’t all be so adept at working magic tricks, but for a little taste of smoke and mirrors at least our ears can get in on the action.
