Nowadays we all recognize our lucky symbols; the number 7, the horseshoe, the wishbone, and of course, the four leaf clover. But did you know that the original lucky plant associated with Irish culture and the Saint Patrick’s Day holiday was actually the shamrock, or three leaf clover? That’s right. Saint Patrick’s day was originally celebrated as an Irish Catholic holiday to commemorate the spread of Christianity to Ireland, and the three leaf clover (as equated with the Christian trinity) was the lucky greenery of choice. The original color of the holiday was actually blue too, instead of green. We’re pretty sure that doesn’t take away from the modern concept of lucky clover though, so just to be on the safe side…
