The Tea: Wound Wash vs. Homemade Salt Soaks
Hey Body Candy Fam!
Good to see you! Thanks for joining me today - it's Thursday which means it's time for The Tea. It's my every-Thurs vlog where I talk about something piercing/modification related that's been on my mind.
Today we're gonna talk about saline solution and cleaning your piercings! In the past, we've talked about sea salt soaks and how you can make them at home... It's still a totally fine way to take care of your piercings and can certainly get you through. Conversely, you can also get a can of wound wash, which will stay sterile throughout your healing journey.
Here's my thoughts on wound wash vs. a homemade salt soak:
Today's topics:
- Wound wash is regulated. You'll know that every time you spray it, you'll be using a medical grade formula that you simply can't contaminate. Just be sure to watch out for additives!
- The spray nozzle is useful! You shouldn't be rubbing your piercing for any reason... In combination with a nice warm shower, the gentle force of the spray nozzle can help to wash away debris.
- Sea salt soaks are ok too! Since it's made at home, there is always a slight chance that you might measure ingredients incorrectly or accidentally contaminate your saline somehow. It's not a deal breaker... Just the truth!
- Remember that good hygiene isn't the only key to a healthy heal time. Be sure to drink enough water, get enough sleep, and avoid any bumps, snags, or added stress on your new mod.

Although hopefully someday they won't be a daily part of our lives anymore, face masks are here to stay for the time being. These helpful masks can help to protect us (and others) from airborne viruses and other bacteria, but they have an unfortunate side-effect, mostly for us pierced and modded folks. THEY COVER UP OUR FACE! It's important for health and safety, but it also means our lip rings, tongue rings, and nose rings are all invisible. Beyond the mask itself, the mask's straps can also affect our ear piercings, especially conch piercings and forward helix piercings. This new addition to our wardrobe leaves a lot of questions... Can I get pierced underneath my mask? Will the mask put unnecessary pressure on my nostril piercing? Can I get any ear piercings even though the straps go around my ears? We answer them all in this week's new blog: Can I Wear A Face Mask with Piercings?

I love being able to help Body Candy customers... I get questions about piercings and modifications (and even TATTOOS) all the time, and some of the most fulfilling parts of my job is being able to steer people in the right direction. I'm not a pro piercer or a medical professional myself - but I am a good starting point! So if you have a question, a comment, a concern, or a compliment you want to send my way... I'm all ears! Draft up an email and send it over to DearAlley@bodycandy.com. Every week, I answer three (3) of your piercing or body mod related questions in my little Saturday column.
