The Tea: What does LITHA stand for?
Hey Body Candy Fam!
Happy day! It's Thursday, which means we're here for another exciting edition of The Tea. It's my weekly pierced & modified-focused vlog where I talk about stuff that's on my mind.
L. I. T. H. A. Have you ever seen this acronym? It stands for "Leave it the hell alone" and it's a simple (perhaps even the simplest) way to handle your piercing aftercare.
When it comes down to it, fussing with your piercing is just a general no-no. Poking, prodding, spinning, twisting, or any verb ending in -ing with your piercing is going to irritate it, damage it, or potentially introduce bacteria or debris into it... Sometimes the best way to let your piercing heal is to just leave it alone!
Today's topics:
- Healing piercings are technically puncture wounds. The cells inside your piercing are fragile and need time to grow strong. Messing with your jewelry at all can interrupt this process.
- Good general hygiene is ALWAYS important. Be sure to shower daily and keep a close eye on your piercing. Other than some saline spray or a warm shower, the LITHA method encourages avoiding any sort of "scrubbing" to clean your piercing.
- Always listen to your professional piercer! They may not recommend the LITHA method, but if you are interested in trying it out for yourself, make sure you ask lots of questions.
- You should stop using the LITHA method if you notice your piercing getting red; peeling or flaking; if it develops a smell; or if it starts discharging yellow/greenish pus. If you have any of these symptoms, go see a doctor or a professional piercer immediately!

We've all been there - there might come a time when being pierced/modified might get in the way of life. Maybe you've got a job with a strict dress code. Maybe your school doesn't allow visible piercings. Maybe you're just uncomfortable showing up to Thanksgiving and ruining your grandma's night. Whatever your reason is, if you've got the itch to be pierced but need to keep things subtle, you don't have to give up on your pierced and modified dreams just yet. There are "subtler" piercings that you can get that are easily hidden by either clothing or most hair styles. Whether its a septum ring (with a horseshoe barbell), a nipple piercing, a navel ring, or a helix earring, we've put together a list of piercings that you can easily keep to yourself. Check it out on this week's blog: Five (5) Piercings You Can Hide.
Check out our New Body Jewelry collection. Now that we're here for a new year, we've gotta be in for new body jewelry. Have you been looking for new jewelry? We're always uploading new stuff... New cartilage earrings, new eyebrow rings, even new earrings for your plugs and tunnels. Be sure to check that out above. Have you ever heard of aurora gem jewelry? Aurora gems are coated with a special coating that makes them glimmer and glint in the sunlight in many beautiful colors. Different gems will have different effects - expect to see oranges, blues, purples, and many other colors when you rock them in your belly button ring or septum piercing. What colors will you get in in yours? Last but not least, I suggest checking out our classic Opal Love collection. Opals are amazing stones with natural inclusions - flecks of fiery reflectiveness that sparkle in any sort of light. Rock one in your septum piercing for a statement look or snag a pack of opal stud earrings to emphasize your lobe piercings just a bit more.
If you all like The Tea, I bet you'd also like my Saturday advice column, Dear Alley! Every week I take three questions from Body Candy Babes worldwide and answer them in my own little blog. Send your comment/question/concern over to DearAlley@bodycandy.com - maybe your question will be featured this week!
