The Tea: Is Over-Cleaning a Thing?
Hey Body Candy Fam!
Hello, hello, hello my Body Candy bbs. Happy Thursday! Welcome to my weekly e-zine, The Tea :)!
Today's topics:
- Yes, you can over-clean a piercing! You don't really want to be touching your piercing at all while it's healing.
- You should only be cleaning your piercing once a day - no more than twice. You only want to clean the crust off of the outside and leave the inside alone to heal.
- Don't rotate or spin your piercing in your healing piercing... It's actually causing trauma inside of your piercing tunnel aka the "fistula."
- Things you shouldn't be putting on a piercing: alcohol, witch hazel, peroxide, tea tree oil, contact solution - it's all too harsh for healing.
- Things you should use on your piercing: saline solution, sea salt soaks, warm & clean water, or a chamomile tea compress (as long as your piercer says its ok!)

It wouldn't be a Tea-mail without our favorite stone, OPAL. Whether you're a fiery white fan or prefer a rainbow of colors, BC has got you covered. We've got opals in a literal rainbow of colors - red, orange, green, blue, purple... You name it. A little bit of Opal Love is never a bad idea. Just as it's important not to over-clean, its important not to swap out your jewelry for something new and cute before your body is ready. That being said, I think it's always a good time to show off our brand new jewelry :). I'm going to re-iterate - it's very important to let your new piercings heal up before you get impatient and try to put something new in... But you'll eventually be ready to swap things out, and Body Candy is ALWAYS getting brand new stuff in. Last but not least, let's not forget about Valentine's day! We've been getting lots of requests for cute hearts, arrows, devils, and even witchy stuff (for when you need to put hexes on your exes). May I suggest a heart-shaped belly ring, some flowery nipple shields, or a cute, dangle-element industrial?
This week we went all in with the over-cleaning theme! We've been getting a ton of great questions on our new Dear Alley segment, and one of my favorite questions this week was about being afraid of infection. In case you want even more info about healing up efficiently, our blog this week is "Can You Over-Clean Your Piercings? Best Practices For Healing Up Quickly."
Speaking of Dear Alley, if you have a question for Alley - we have good news for you! Check out Dear Alley on Saturdays for even more juicy piercing/tattoo/content. You can even e-mail your own question in for a chance to get answered. We're constantly pumping out new content over on our Body Jewelry Blog for anyone interested in piercing and jewelry content... If you like The Tea, Dear Alley, and our Facebook LIVE series, check in from week to week to see what we're up to!
