Piercing Experience: Nick's Nose Ring Resize

A few months ago, Alley, Nick, and Adam took a trip to a local, professional piercer to get some piercings done. During that session, Alley added to her already impressive mod collection with two high nostril piercings, and Nick received his first-ever piercing, a simple nostril piercing. Adam sprung for a single, nipple piercing (also his first-ever piercing).

It's been about five (5) months since their initial appointment. It's still too soon for Adam to resize - a nipple piercing takes anywhere from nine (9) to twelve (12) months to heal... But it's now a safe and perfectly appropriate time for Alley and Nick to resize. High nostril and regular nostril piercings take anywhere from four (4) to six (6) months to heal. Now they're both feeling eager to try some new body jewelry.

Interestingly enough, Alley and Nick had very different experiences at the piercing shop today. Alley's piercings were still not quite healed up enough, so James suggested waiting a few more weeks to resize for her - bummer! Nick, on the other hand, was healed up enough to downsize.

Getting your jewelry resized might not seem like most intimidating part of the piercing process... But it's certainly an important part of the experience! Oftentimes, a piercer will have to put a larger-gauge piece of jewelry into the initial piercing to help it heal correctly. This larger gauge jewelry might not fit the aesthetic that you were shooting for when you first got pierced; Nick was looking for a fit that was a little bit more snug to his nostril.

James sat Nick down and inserted a pair of pliers into Nick's nose. He warned Nick about a slight bit of pressure and then pried Nick's old seamless ring open. Next, James tried to insert the new, smaller ring but encountered a bit of resistance. Surprise! Nick had a bit of tissue that grew into a small gap in his previous seamless ring. James pushed the tiny bit of tissue out with a needle, effectively re-piercing Nick's nose, and then inserted Nick's new, smaller nose ring.

Besides a small pinch, a little blood, and a few fat tears rolling down his cheek, Nick's new nose ring is smaller and fits more snugly to his nose - he's good to go!
