What can you wear in your ear piercings?
👉 Lobes
Earlobes should always be pierced with a flatback labret stud, never butterfly-back earrings and never a piercing gun. Flatbacks are secure, easy to keep clean, and allow for proper healing. Most lobe piercings are done at 18 gauge, but if you plan to stretch them, talk to your piercer about starting at a larger gauge.
👉 Straight Jewelry
Flatback labrets are the go-to for many ear piercings like tragus, conch, helix, and flat. These are usually done at 16 gauge and heal best with simple, stable jewelry. While rings may look appealing (especially for conch piercings), they can cause too much movement during healing.
👉 Curved Jewelry
For piercings like the rook, snug, and anti-tragus, curved barbells are the standard choice. Done at 16 or 14 gauge, these are similar to eyebrow jewelry, which means you’ll have plenty of options once fully healed.
👉 Circular Jewelry
Daith and orbital piercings require circular jewelry—usually a horseshoe or captive bead ring. Avoid clickers or segment rings with seams, as they can irritate the fresh piercing while it heals.
👉 Industrial
Industrials always use a long, 14 gauge straight barbell that connects two piercings. Getting them separately can cause improper angles that make connecting impossible. Once healed, you can switch to barbells with charms or chains, but during healing, simplicity and stability are key.
