Nose Rings that Don't Fall Out

We've all been there! Losing a nose ring is an unfortunate, but relatively common problem for piercing enthusiasts. Whether you lost a nose bone while you were working out or lost your retainer while you were sleeping, the act of losing your nose jewelry can be frustrating. 

There are lots of nose jewelry styles that shouldn't fall out - for that reason, there's no one true answer for the "best" type of nose ring to never fall out. The answer here really depends on you and how you choose to wear your jewelry. As long as you match up the gauge size of your nose (most nose rings are 18g or 20g, but some people have 16g nose piercings), these jewelry types should be fairly interchangeable.

Seamless Rings, Segment Rings, BCRs & Clickers

We're putting these styles of nose ring first because they are (if worn correctly) a closed circle.

Segment rings and clickers are lovely options for your nose piercing. These jewelry styles come with a little hinge that can be popped open and securely closed. Once they've been securely shut, they'll stay in your nose indefinitely.

BCRs are similar to segment rings, but they come with a special ball that keeps the hoop connected and secure in your nostril. 

While they don't have a hinge, seamless rings are exactly that - seamless. This means they shouldn't have a way to sneak out of your nose when you're not paying attention. Seamless rings need to be bent gently out of shape to be put in correctly, but once they are in your nose, they can be simply bent back closed for a seamless look. Pro tip: When you're bending your seamless ring, bend the jewelry to the side, rather than wide open - this will help the jewelry keep its shape and avoid any unnecessary distortion.

Horseshoe Rings

Also known as circular barbells, horseshoe rings are horseshoe-shaped barbells that come equipped with small balls, spikes, or otherwise decorative ends. This piercing offers a unique look - it's not a complete hoop like the aforementioned seamless/segment/clicker options, but the decorative ends offer a unique way to punch up any look or outfit.

Nose Screws, Twisters, & L-Shaped Nose Rings

Nose screws, twisters, and l-shaped nose rings are a unique variation on a typical nose ring.

Nose screws (occasionally known as "twisters") have a curved shape about halfway down the post of the jewelry. This shape is useful because as it is threaded into the nose, the curve of the jewelry will rest against the inside of your nostril, providing a tight and secure fit.

L-shaped nose rings take a similar approach, but rather than a spiral-like shape, they come with a 90 degree angle that helps keep your nose jewelry secure.

Retainers

While retainers shouldn't be a long-term solution for secure jewelry, they are a great option for keeping your piercing safe and open while you're being active (think playing sports). 

Retainers come in lots of colors, but are typically clear or flesh colored. This makes them perfect for camouflage - think work, school, or a professional function where you don't want your nose ring to stand out.

Retainers come in classic nose bone styles, but can also be found in screw styles and septum jewelry that can be flipped up into your nose for an invisible look.

Nose Bones

While nose bones are certainly AN option when it comes to secure nose jewelry, this is the style that tends to fall out most often. Nose bones are small barbells with one decorative end and a small, bulbous tip on the other. The bulbous tip rests inside the nostril, creating a semi-secure way to wear low profile jewelry. 

While nose bones are super easy to insert, comfy to wear, and work for lots and lots of people, you'll sometimes find that this style of jewelry just isn't secure enough for your tastes. Luckily, the above options offer a bit more security!
