The Tea: Why Isn't My Piercing Healing?
Hey Body Candy Fam!
It's Thursday... You know what time it is! The Tea, with me, Alley. Thanks for joining me for my every-Thursday blog where we discuss all-things Body Candy - piercings, tattoos, aftercare, and being a pierced and modified bae in general.
Let's get back to basics for this week's Tea - Piercing aftercare! Part of being pierced is being ready to practice diligent and regular aftercare. But even when we've got good hygiene and do everything we can to ensure our piercings are staying happy and healthy, there are things that can throw off our heal time.
Let's discuss some tricky things that might explain why your piercing just isn't healing the way you'd like:
Today's topics:
- Trauma: bumps, pokes, prods, snags... Any of these (yes, even as minimal as poking at your piercing) can cause added heal time
- Sleeping on it: do your best to sleep on the opposite side of your piercing when applicable - if you absolutely must sleep on your side, invest in a travel donut pillow to keep your ear off the bed/pillow
- Hygiene: it's very important to keep your piercing clean! We recommend a nice warm shower and a sterile saline spray once a day. You can actually over-clean your piercings though! Don't clean them so much that they dry out, which can have the opposite effect.
- Jewelry: this one's more on your pro piercer, but sometimes the jewelry you were pierced with isn't right for your personal body; isn't the right size; or just isn't conducive to healing.
- Medical Issue: if you think this is the case, you should definitely go visit your pro piercer ASAP! A hidden infection; debris caught in your piercing; or any sort of medical complication isn't worth ignoring.

We've posted a throwback blog this week! Join past-Alley (me) as she (I) heads to the piercing studio to get her (my) high nostrils done! I've since taken these piercings out, but I absolutely love the look of them. Nose rings are some of the most popular piercings in the world for a reason... They look amazing and they're widely accepted in society and the work place. For me, I just wanted a bit of extra flair in my nose, so I decided to get my upper nostrils pierced. It was definitely a unique experience! It's not that often that you get something that far up your nose, especially something sharp like a piercing needle... But while I had these unique piercings, I was in love with the look of them. Sometimes you just need to see another person's experience to decide for yourself if you want a new mod or not. Check out my LIVE piercing experience - Piercing Experience: Alley's High Nostrils.

Calling all pierced/modified peeps - I'm looking for more questions to answer for my weekly "advice column," Dear Alley. Every Saturday, I choose three pierced & modified questions to answer in a helpful little blog. Have you been wondering about the healing process of your belly button ring? Is your nose piercing developing a piercing bump? Is one of your piercings acting up? I'd be happy to point you in the right direction! Draft up a little email and send it over to my personal inbox at DearAlley@bodycandy.com. Who knows - your question might end up in next week's segment!
