Have you heard about snake eye piercings?
It's Halloween and we're ready for something scary!
Today, Kyra is going to talk about the tongue piercing commonly known as a snake eye piercing. Peep the video or read on to find out why this infamous piercing has such a bad rep and why we don't recommend it either!
What - a snake eye piercing involves a barbell that goes horizontally through 2 separate muscles at the tip of your tongue. That detail is important! Keep that in mind for later. Most accredited piercers won't actually perform this piercing for good reason.
Why - Your tongue is comprised of 2 muscles - one on each side left and right. Putting a barbell through both of those muscles can restrict the proper movement of these individual muscles. It can effect the way that you talk and speech issues are actually really common with this piercing. Because the jewelry is at the tip of your tongue, right behind your teeth, it can cause some serious dental damage as well. Metal hitting your teeth every time you talk, eat or drink can have a detrimental effect over time.
Who - As we mentioned earlier, most piercers won't perform this piercing for the reasons we've listed above and more. It's pretty well known in the piercing community that this is a pretty scary piercing so you'd be lucky to even find one (a reputable one, that is!) Piercers aren't doing this to be mean, they just really want you to have a great piercing experience and a healthy healing process.
