Why is my piercing itchy?
Is an itchy piercing normal?
Or is it a sign of things gone wrong?! We know this can be worrisome but 9 times out of 10 it's completely usual. Let's go over what could be going on.
It can actually be a good thing! Basically, it's a sign that your body is recognizing a new wound and taking the steps it should to heal it.
If you've had your piercing for a while it could be a sign that you're using a metal type that your body could be allergic to.
If it's an older piercing that's suffered a snag or a bump and it starts to itch, that could be a possible sign of infection. If you're concerned you can always talk with your piercer or a medical professional for their opinion.
It could also be a result of something as simple as having slept funny on your piercing.
What can you do?
Practice the LITHA method - that stands for Leave It The Heck Alone! And don't even think about twisting your piercing!
If you absolutely have to touch your piercing make sure you have clean hands. Bacteria is likely to cause infection in an open wound.
Be sure to clean your piercing regularly but don't over clean. Saline solution is your best friend for keeping itch and infection away.
