Safe Stretching 101
BLOWOUTS!! Every ear stretcher's nightmare... What are they? How to avoid them? How to heal them!?!
As always, we are not piercing professionals so please check with your piercing professional, before anything else.
Blowouts happen when you try to stretch your ear too quickly by skipping gauges. A blowout is a painful, red, and irritated circle, almost like the back of your earhole is turning inside out. You can google it if you haven't seen it before but warning, it isn't pretty.
SLOW & STEADY is the name of the game when it comes to stretching your ears. Take your time and don't try to force it by skipping gauges. If you decide to try to speed up your stretching journey you may find yourself with a blowout.
If you have a blowout, let's fix it! Definitely downsize your jewelry to a smaller gauge to allow your ear to heal, and don't try stretching for at least 2 weeks or until your ear is healed. Always wash your hands with antibacterial soap before touching your ears and make it a practice to clean your ears with a saline wash! Massaging your ears is also a good practice to help get them back to normal.
If you are interested in stretching your ears, may I recommend trying our stretching kits! They are tapered to make your stretching experience easier and we have acrylic and other material options. Check out this previous Tea to get the down-low for more stretching tips ✨
