Follow Kyra's Dos and Don'ts with piercing aftercare so your healing piercing process will be smooth sailing!
This week's Tea is chocked full of great information to keep in mind for your next piercing or your most current healing piercing. I highly encourage you to watch the video if you can, Kyra explains everything in a lot of detail and beautifully!
Kyra starts off this video by explaining some tips that you can use to clean your piercings. She also wants to make sure you know that she's not a piercing professional and these are some tips that have worked for her. She recommends a nice saline solution for cleaning her piercings. You don't want to irritate them too much but you definitely need to make sure they are clean. Before you even think about touching your piercing make sure you wash your hands with a non-perfumed antibacterial soap! Then you can go in with a Q-tip to gently clean away any leakage. Kyra tells a fun tip that she uses when she's not feeling a Q-tip or a gauze pad.
Scabs?? Yep, they are going to happen, it might be painful but it's good to gently clean the scabs off to ensure that your piercing is healing properly. Kyra gives some more tips and the best way to remove those in the video.
If you are a big swimmer you might want to wait until the summer is over to get that piercing!! Pools, lakes, oceans, or even hot tubs will have lots of bacteria or chlorine inside of them which is definitely not good for a healing piercing. Avoid bodies of water until you know that your piercing is healed completely! It's better to stay on the safe side for this one. But if you really can't handle it you need to go swimming maybe look into some waterproof Band-Aids but they are not a guarantee to completely protect your piercing.
If you are feeling rundown, maybe a little bit sick you should postpone your piercing until you are feeling 100%. Your body will help to heal faster if you are feeling at the top of your game. Kyra even postponed a piercing she was going to get just because she was feeling a bit ill and wants to recover before she gets her new piercing. Looking into some vitamins that might help increase your immune system like vitamin C is always a good call.
An important tip that people look over is to always make sure you're sleeping on clean sheets and pillowcases. Make sure when you sleep that your healing piercing is touching clean fabric whether it be your clothes, your sheets, or your pillowcase. Especially if your pet sleeps with you it is very important to make sure that is clean to avoid infection or other issues.
Speaking of sleeping Kyra has a special pillow, she thinks it's a maternity pillow, that she loves to use when her piercings are healing. Jade has a special donut pillow that also works. Or any travel pillows are perfect just to help avoid your piercing rubbing all night.
And of course, if you are experiencing any infection or intense pain or something you can't really explain when it comes to your healing piercing please call your piercing professional or your doctor. They will be able to help you out and give you the direction you need.
Kyra goes into some specifics for certain piercings but will list a couple of tips here! If you want more check out the video!
If you pierced your navel: avoid high-waisted pants and flowy fabric is best!
If you pierced your face: be wary of spraying hairspray, or other products directly on your healing piercing.
If you pierced your mouth: no spicy stuff! Why?? Kyra said it was instant regret!
Don't chew gum it will get tangled in your jewelry and be a bad time. Brush teeth GENTLY.
