Want to reduce piercing pain?
How can you reduce the pain of getting pierced?
Piercings are one of our favorite things but the pain associated with them can make the whole idea a bit daunting. It's totally normal, even if it's your 100th piercing, to get a little anxious about it. Today Kyra is going to share with us some tips on how we can manage the pain of getting a new piercing.
Breathing & meditation - if you're feeling at all anxious, deep breathing techniques before and during your piercing can help to keep your mind and your body as calm as possible by getting lots of oxygen to your brain. A lot of the time, anticipation can make the pain worse. If you go in with the right mindset it might not be too bad.
Get comfy - This one is mostly up to your piercer but you can always ask them if you're able to take a position that's more comfortable for you. Sometimes laying down on your back or side can help if you're tense in an upright position. Just remember, it's going to have to work for both you and your piercer of course.
Don't look! - Sometimes it's easy to psyche yourself out. Needles can be a little intimidating so you absolutely have the option of just looking away or close your eyes.
Research is key - Find a reputable piercer! We can't emphasize this one enough. If your piercer doesn't know exactly what they're doing, there is a chance that they could cause more pain during the process. A confident piercer will know exactly what they are doing and it will all be over in a second.
Phone a friend - Taking a friend with you for your piercing is a great distraction. Just don't take too many or that can be distracting for your piercer. We recommend taking just one.
Think of the sparkle - Another great distraction is thinking about your new jewelry and how good you're going to look with your new piercing.
After burn - If you're experiencing some pain after your piercing you can take an anti-inflammatory to help you deal with that. Just don't take them before as that could thin your blood and make your piercing experience a little less smooth. After-piercing pain can also be helped with a proper after-care routine. If you clean it properly and don't touch it, you should be on your way to a comfortable, painless recovery.
