The Tea: Dealing with Rude Comments About Your Piercings (Holiday Edition)
Hey Body Candy Fam!
Happy Holidays! Merry Christmas Teave! Thanks for being here everyone - I'm Alley and this is my every-Thursday blog where we get together and discuss all things piercing & modified. It's called The Tea.
It's an all too familiar situation for us pierced & modified folks... We're all decked out for the holidays, looking fierce and fine. And one of our family members makes an off-color comment. "You'd look so much better without all that metal in your face."
The 2020 holiday season is certainly a unique one... Many families will be hosting their family get togethers via Zoom or some other streaming platform. We predict that there will still be lots of unwanted comments from uptight relatives. Here's how I suggest dealing with them!
Today's topics:
- First and foremost, make sure you go into every situation with a positive attitude! You're fierce & modified and that's all that matters. Being cranky will simply reinforce the negative stereotype that pierced people are angry/aggressive.
- If you're on Zoom and someone's being negative... Pull the "my internet is cutting out" card. You can even rub your microphone with your finger for some extra glitchy flavor.
- If you're with your family in-person, don't ever feel bad about simply walking away. You don't owe anyone an explanation. Just walk out of the room... This could be a good opportunity to get another snack!
- The best way to handle these comments is to have some go-to fun facts! Responding with education or positivity is a great way to shut down someone's negative-Nancy commentary.
Be safe this holiday y'all! See you all next week.

Piercing aftercare is an incredibly important part of the piercing experience... But did you know that you can actually clean your piercings too much? Saline or salt soaks are generally agreed upon as a gentle and therapeutic way to keep your piercings clean. But oftentimes, cleaning your piercing is an excuse for touching, poking, and prodding a healing wound that needs space to take care of itself on its own. While general hygiene is very important, keep in mind that "crusties" (aka lymph fluid) or blood may form on the outside of your piercing as a natural barrier to the outside world. It exists just as much to keep foreign invaders, bacteria, and debris out. Remember - always follow the aftercare methods that your piercer suggests, but if you're interested, ask them about the LITHA method. It stands for something simple, yet effective... Curious? Check out our latest blog now: Piercing Aftercare: What Is the LITHA Method?
