Q: Do all piercings leave a scar? -Meg W
A: All piercings will leave behind some level of scarring. This can range from barely noticeable to quite severe, depending on how long you had the piercing and the circumstances under which you removed it. A rejecting piercing that was let go for months will leave a far worse scar than a piercing that healed properly and was simply retired. That said, if you remove a piercing, you can start treating the scar after it is healed and closed. This can take a few weeks to several weeks, depending on how healthy it was when you removed it. An easy and popular scar treatment is Bio Oil, which you would then use as the directions recommend. And if your piercing is exposed and not under clothing, it also helps to use sunscreen daily once it’s healed. By doing these things, you can help reduce the appearance of scarring to where it is far less noticeable. Best of luck!
Q: What’s the difference between a seamless ring and a segment ring? Are they the same thing? -Lucas
A: Both are circular rings; the key difference is closure. A seamless ring has open ends that you simply push together. These are generally lower gauge rings to make this possible as the metal needs to be somewhat flexible. A hinged segment ring is more like a clicker in that it has a hinged segment that is attached to the ring. You can open the latch at the end of the segment, and it will stay attached to the ring itself at the other end of the segment. Once the jewelry is in, you simply close the segment again and click it shut. Both are best for fully healed piercings so that the seams at the closure don’t irritate a healing fistula. Happy shopping!
