Q: Will all of my jewelry set off a metal detector? - Ciara
A: I get this question more than you might think lol! There’s virtually no situation where your jewelry should cause a metal detector to alert. Body jewelry is small and shouldn’t contain enough detectable metals to make that happen. Jewelry made of stainless steel or titanium simply isn’t enough to trigger the machine. Enjoy!
Q: Can I keep my jewelry in during my MRI? Thanks! - Eric
A: This is another one that is asked pretty frequently. Whether or not you can wear your piercings during an MRI depends on a few factors. First, it depends heavily on where you go to get the procedure. Some places are more flexible about allowing jewelry in the machine. It also depends on what part of your body is being imaged. If the jewelry is located on the place being imaged, the technicians may need you to remove your jewelry in order to get a clearer image. Thirdly, it depends on the material of your jewelry. Your absolute safest bet is to put glass retainers in your piercings. This prevents any possibility of your jewelry reacting in the machine and turning into shrapnel. You definitely will want to call the imaging center that will be performing your MRI and ask them what their policy is – that varies widely from place to place. Best of luck!
