Q: My mom doesn't want me to get my septum pierced. She says I'll be at risk of getting a sinus infection. Is that true or is she telling me that to scare me off from the idea? Thanks. -Malia
A: This absolutely sounds like a scare tactic. Now, your mother might have legitimately heard this somewhere and truly believe it’s for real, however, your chances of getting a sinus infection are no greater with a septum piercing than without one. Possibly an infected septum if you don’t take proper care of it afterwards but there is simply no reason why you would get a sinus infection just from having a pierced septum. Hope this helps!
Q: I am ALWAYS losing the ball to my jewelry! How can I keep from losing them all the time, like a lot of the time they just loosen up and poof, gone! -Darla O.
A: Isn’t that the worst? And it’s always at the most inconvenient possible moment. One way around this issue is to try threadless jewelry. Instead of having the ends of the jewelry threaded so that they screw into one another, the barbell is entirely unthreaded, and the jewelry end has a short piece of thin wire attached to it. All that is needed is for the wire to be ever-so-slightly bent into a slight curve and, once inserted into the barbell, will hold the jewelry firmly in place. This style of jewelry can be a little more challenging to insert and remove on your own but with some patience and a steady hand, it’s entirely doable. Best of luck!
