Q: I have a horizontal eyebrow piercing and wanted to know if there was a specific piercing I needed for that kind or am I able to use the same one as a vertical eyebrow piercing? - Jessica
A: A horizontal eyebrow piercing is a surface piercing, even more so than the vertical version. It should be pierced with a staple-style surface bar. A curved barbell is going to be more prone to rejection than the staple bar and should not be used. If you don’t know what jewelry you were pierced with, you should go see a trusted professional piercer and find out. If it’s a curved barbell, you may be advised to remove it, allow it to heal, and have it re-pierced with the appropriate jewelry. You will definitely want to keep an eye on it and remove it at the first signs of rejection to minimize scarring. Best of luck.
Q: Pierced newbie here so sorry if this is a super basic question but how do I know which size jewelry to get for my new cartilage piercing? - Tayla B
A: Piercings are as individual and unique as the people who wear them. Your best bet is to go see a piercer who can evaluate your piercing and determine which specific length and gauge work for you. If you already have jewelry that fits well in your piercing, you can simply buy a set of digital calipers and use them to measure both the gauge and length/diameter of the jewelry so that you can just buy jewelry in the same sizes. If your piercing is new, you should have plenty of time to figure out the sizing while it heals as you do NOT want to remove your jewelry until it is fully healed. Also, your piercer may have written the sizes of your jewelry on your paperwork the day you were pierced so you may want to check that as well. Happy piercing!
