New piercings - what's more fun than that!? Once you've gone and gotten the piercing, the next thing on your mind should be healing up quickly and efficiently. It's important to be diligent about taking care of your piercing when you're awake... But what about when you aren't awake? Yes, your time spent asleep can have a significant affect on the healthiness and happiness of your piercing. Here's a few tips:

- Be careful with your hair - especially with ear cartilage piercings. Snags can re-irritate your piercings, and tossing and turning at night can certainly cause this to happen.
- Change your sheets and pillowcases often. Bacteria from unwashed bedding can get in and around your piercings, causing complications.
- NEVER sleep directly on a new piercing... The unnecessary pressure causes stress on your new mod, which can complicate healing times.
- Struggling because you're a side sleeper? A travel pillow (donut shaped) or two pillows placed close together with a gap in the middle can provide some wiggle room for your ear to hang out stress-free.
- Clean your piercings before bed! Good general hygiene and diligent aftercare go a long way in your healing journey.

Speaking of new piercings... There's something that happens to some of us when we return from the parlor. You look in the mirror on the first or second day and notice something odd.
