Q: How do you respond when people make comments about your tattoos/piercings? - Elyssa B.
A: Honestly, I try not to take those comments personally. A lot of the time, people criticize tattoos or piercings because they just don’t understand them... or they grew up thinking they were “bad” or “unprofessional.” Instead of getting defensive, I usually try to keep the conversation positive and educational.
I’ll explain why I got a certain piercing or tattoo, what it means to me, or even just talk about the artistry behind it. Most people are actually super curious once you open the conversation up a little. And if someone still doesn’t like it? That’s okay too. My body mods are for me, not for everyone else’s approval.
At the end of the day, I think self-expression is a beautiful thing, and sometimes a simple conversation can totally change someone’s perspective.
Q: I heard there is an ear piercing that helps with anxiety. Is this true? - Courtney B.
A: You’re probably thinking of the daith piercing! There are people online who claim it can help with things like anxiety or migraines, but there’s actually no solid scientific evidence proving that it works as a medical treatment. Most of the positive experiences people talk about are considered anecdotal, and some could be connected to the placebo effect.
That being said, if someone feels more relaxed or confident after getting a piercing they love, that experience is still real to them! Just try to think of it as a cool style choice rather than a substitute for medical care or mental health treatment.
If you’re considering one, the best reason to get it is because you genuinely like the look of it. Any other “benefits” should just be viewed as a possible bonus, not a guarantee.
