A: Actually, septums are considered to be one of the lesser painful spots to get pierced. (No piercing is entirely painless, and pain is a very subjective thing. It’s impossible to know what your actual experience will be like.) The “sweet spot” for a septum piercing is squidgy and softer than the firm cartilage that makes up your ear so if you have a cartilage piercing or nostril piercing, you may find that the septum hurt considerably less. Some people may cry when getting their septum pierced but what you might actually be seeing is not really crying at all. When you have an injury – and piercings are an injury – that is very close to your eyes, often it will cause them to water. It’s not crying out of pain, it’s simply that one’s eyes are watering out of control. The discomfort shouldn’t be bad enough to make you cry and, like all piercings, the painful part is over in a couple of seconds at most. (And it’s ok if you do cry, the piercer isn’t going to judge you.) So, fear not, it doesn’t hurt nearly as much as it looks like it does. Happy piercing!

A: Conch piercings are kind of awesome because they can rock almost any kind of jewelry you might want to put in one. You can wear straight jewelry like a labret or a cartilage stud. You can wear circular jewelry like a captive ring or a hinged segment ring or even a simple horseshoe. You can even split the difference and rock a straight barbell clicker. The only jewelry you wouldn’t be able to wear would be a curved barbell or a spiral curved barbell. Now, everyone’s anatomy is different, and you may find that some styles are less comfortable in your specific piercing. But, generally speaking, conch piercings can wear almost anything and that’s one of the reasons why they are awesome. Happy shopping!
