As the world continues to open up, I wanted to point out that piercing and tattoo shops have been posting guidelines that are in place to keep us all safe. Here are a few of the things to expect:

- These rules/guidelines/regulations are different in every state and every shop! Try to find your shop online before you head out - they will more than likely have posted their personal guidelines on their social media.
- You'll probably still need to wear a mask and thoroughly sanitize your hands as you walk in the door.
- Be prepared to head to your appointment alone - the exception to this rule may be if you are a minor in a state where parent/guardian supervision is required.
- There may be restrictions on piercings that would be below a mask, like lip rings, tongue rings, or nose rings.
- Many shops are operating by appointment only! Due to social distancing guidelines, waiting rooms may not be open and walk-ins might be turned away for safety.

Since oral and oral-adjacent piercings might be off the market for some individuals, I wanted to take a minute to talk about a lesser-known piercing.
