Push-In & Threadless Lip Rings

Lip jewelry with no screw threads anywhere: threadless titanium and steel posts whose tops press in and hold by tension, and bioplast push-fit labrets with a flexible post and a solid 14k gold top. Nothing to cross-thread, nothing to strip, no grooves for gunk to hide in, which is why piercers reach for this style on anything near the mouth. 16G and 14G for the lip, 18G and 20G for finer piercings, for labret, Monroe and Medusa. Since 1999.

Push-In & Threadless Fit Guide

How it holds: a threadless top has a slightly bent pin that slides into a hollow post and grips by spring tension. Press it straight in to seat it; pull straight out to remove it, never twist. Loose? Bend the pin a touch more. A bioplast push-in works the same way with a flexible medical-plastic post that bends with your lip and stays gentle on teeth.

Why smooth matters: externally threaded posts carry their threads on the end that passes through you, so they can scrape a fresh channel. Internally threaded and threadless posts are smooth where it counts, which is why piercers use them for new piercings. Everything on this page is the smooth kind.

Fit: lip piercings are mostly 14G or 16G; threadless also comes in 18G and 20G. Post length is the comfort setting: 5/16 inch (8mm) for a snug healed fit, 3/8 inch (10mm) for fuller lips, 1/4 inch for a very snug Monroe. Match the post you wear now. Tops and posts are matched within a brand, so pair ours with ours. Steel suits most people and holds a trace of nickel in the alloy; titanium is the nickel-free pick; the solid 14k gold tops ride on bioplast posts and are made in our own gold department.

FAQ

No screw threads anywhere. A threadless top has a slightly bent pin that slides into a hollow post and holds by spring tension; a push-in bioplast labret works the same way with a flexible post. Nothing to cross-thread, nothing to strip, and no grooves on the post for gunk to live in, which is why piercers rate it the cleanest option for anything in or near the mouth.

Push the post through from inside the lip, then line the pin up and press the top straight in until it seats. If it feels loose, pull the top out and bend the pin a touch more; too tight, bend it a touch straighter. To remove, pull straight out, never twist; twisting is how threaded jewelry opens, and it does nothing here but wear the pin.

Externally threaded posts have the threads cut on the end that passes through you, so they can scrape a fresh channel; fine for a healed piercing, the classic budget build. Internally threaded posts are tapped so the top screws into a smooth post. Threadless skips threads entirely. The last two are what piercers use for new piercings; this page is all of the smooth kind.

A labret whose post is flexible medical-grade plastic instead of metal, with a metal or solid 14k gold top that pushes into it. The soft post bends with your lip, is gentle on teeth and gums, and is one of the materials the piercing standard endorses for fresh and sensitive piercings. Our solid gold push-in labrets ride on bioplast posts for exactly that reason.

Not when the pin is bent right and the top is seated. Tension is the whole mechanism, so check the fit when you first put it in and bend the pin a little more if it slides freely. Tops and posts are matched within a brand; mixing a top from one maker with a post from another is where loose fits come from.

Lip piercings are mostly 14G or 16G; threadless also comes in 18G and 20G for finer piercings. Post length: 5/16 inch (8mm) is the snug healed fit, 3/8 inch (10mm) gives fuller lips room, 1/4 inch suits a very snug Monroe. Match the post you wear now; every product page lists gauge and length.
